Book Marketing
Book marketing begins with a recognizable promise. A reader should be able to tell what sort of reading experience your cover, title and description offer. Before adding another promotion channel, check whether those elements agree.
A small reader-fit exercise
- Name one reader community and three books they already discuss.
- Write a one-sentence promise for your own book without “for everyone” or a list of superlatives.
- Show the cover and description to a few readers of that genre. Ask what they expect the opening to deliver.
- Compare those expectations with the actual first chapter. Fix a misleading promise before buying attention.
Choose a channel you can maintain
An author website gives readers a stable place to find your editions and updates. A newsletter needs a clear reason to subscribe and a realistic schedule. Interviews work best when there is a specific story to discuss; use our author interview questions to prepare.
Record the activity, its cost, the audience and the outcome. A busy social post and a purchased book are different results. When reaching readers abroad, start with a small international audience test before committing to a full language edition.
