Author Resources

Use outside help where it resolves a specific weakness in your book. A useful brief tells an editor, designer or formatter what the job includes and how you will decide that it is finished.

What to put in a supplier brief

  • Editing: manuscript length, genre, sample, intended level of edit and how queries will be resolved.
  • Cover and blurb: reader expectations, comparable titles, formats, trim size where relevant, and who owns the final source files.
  • Formatting: required outputs, illustrations and notes, accessibility needs, device checks and correction rounds.
  • Author website: current books and links, a contact route, who maintains updates and who controls the domain.

Compare scopes before prices

Two identical totals may buy very different work. Ask what inputs the provider needs, which deliverables you receive, what happens after a revision and which usage rights are included. Agree on a sample or milestone before a large commitment.

The resources below are historical articles, including descriptions of services once offered by the former association. They are not a current service directory. Current guidance covers planning your own release and preparing a translation project.
